FSR 2015 PRO R4: Wengler takes maiden podium in the desert!

Come Sunday afternoon there were two ZERO cars that lined up for the 4th round of the 2015 FSR PRO Series.

The 4th round of he PRO Series marked the first round where both ZERO cars would start the race with Jacques Wengler and Will Barnes.

Q1: The two ZERO cars headed out on track together, with Jacques leading the way. Jacques put in a good lap to go P5, sitting as high as P3. Meanwhile, Will couldn't get into a rhythm, caught up in traffic on a couple of laps, giving him just one flyer to improve. His mediocre attempt left him P22.

Q2:

For the first time in the team's history, Jacques put a ZERO car into the second phase of qualifying. Being the first car out on track and just one shot at a good lap, the pressure was on. Despite a few mistakes Jacques put himself in an incredible 4th place with a 1:30.4! You can see his lap here:

Race: To the race start and the two ZERO cars negotiated the first few turns cleanly, with Will makin ga mega start to jump from P22 to P12 in a matter of a few corners due to the carnage that unfolded seconds into the race. You can watch his start here:

Jacques was in hot pursuit of third place, occupied by Sander Kallas in the Trines Netrex GP car. Try as he might, he was unable to pass with the DRS on track, but did a solid job at staying with the leading pack.

Meanwhile, things were quickly going downhill for Will, with faster cars behind out of position.

The ZERO pair stopped on lap 14, opting for a one stop strategy in order to cover race leader Jeroen Kweekel. Initially this worked well for both cars, with Will Barnes jumping Mihalo VIjentivic and Jacques managing to hold onto a podium position and slip ahead of Sander Kallas. In the end this was clearly not the best strategy for Will, who slipped down the field with tyre issues and some damage from contact.

But it was Jacques who drove a spectacular race (apart from one off-track excursion) to take ZERO Sim Racing's maiden podium. We want to say a massive thank you to him and our sponsors InsideSimRacing and OnWheelsTV!
